We have been in our homes for a while now, and they might be getting a little messy! Even if you are normally a pretty tidy person, lots of things have been switched up in the past year and you may or may not still have time for cleaning. If you have a space that has been bothering you, try using some of these tips to clean and organize it!
1. Start in one place. You don’t want to be running back and forth trying to organize three things at a time, or it will get hectic and confusing.
2. Start with the most unorganized room/area. When you are done, it will feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders and that will make you feel more relieved after. The accomplishment will motivate you to keep on going!
3. You might need to take your time doing this, so consider scheduling some time. This will make it easier because then you have the time to think about where a good place for something is or if you want to donate it. Plus, then you can't make excuses.
4. Donate. If you donate some stuff it takes some things off your plate, because you don't have to find a new place for something. Plus, getting rid of stuff can open up your space and make space for other things. And you can’t forget that donating is helpful to many organizations such as homeless shelters and animal shelters.
5. We all have these big spaces, like under beds, that are sometimes wasted. They might be filled with empty paper, or boxes of old clothes that you meant to donate. Once you get rid of what has been taking up that space, you can fill it with new things, like clothes or toys. There are also some really cool organizers that you can find for these spaces so that they don't get messy and become a waste of space again.
6. Organizing with labels. Labels can help a lot; they can help sort things into categories of what belongs to who and what should go where. They can also help you organize things that you might not need for a while, like a bag of hand-me downs for when the cousins visit, and when they come, you won't have to go searching through everything because it is neatly labeled.
7. Access is very important. You might want to choose some things that you use a lot, and put them in convenient places. This will help, because you don’t want to be digging for hours trying to find your favorite pair of shoes, and keep seeing a present that you bought a few months early.
All of these changes together might seem overwhelming, but try testing one or two of them out. Who knows, maybe you will be recommending them to friends soon!
